Do the Mormons Know SEO?

According to Avinesh Kaushik, Analytics Evangelist for Google, the Mormons do know Search Engine Optimization otherwise known as SEO. In fact, they know it so well that Avinesh recommends looking at their strategies and following their lead.

At the Chicago 2010 SES Conference Expo Avinesh, who was the keynote speaker, was interviewed by Byron Gordon who asked Avinesh to explain why the Mormons know SEO. During his speech Avinesh used the Mormons website, www.lds.org, as an illustration on proper SEO strategies and techniques. Avinesh said “They [The Mormons or LDS church] have done a marvelous job, as you reflect on their tag cloud, of doing great SEO.” Later in the interview he said “We could learn from the SEO work the LDS church has done”.

What do Mormons and SEO have in common?

Avinesh decided to use the LDS website as an example after typing in a Google search for the keyword “church” and having the Mormon website show as the first church. The LDS official website is also ranked #1 for keywords “church Jesus” and “Jesus Christ church”. Surprisingly, they even rank before Wikipedia for these two search terms.
